Freiston Shore RSPB reserve

The Wash is the most important site in the UK for wintering birds with over a third of a million wildfowl and wading birds. In the past, it has never been easy to approach, but now you can walk alongside the vast expanses of marsh and sea to experience the special birds of the area in the company of our experts.

A specially created lagoon, dotted with islands and overlooked by an observation hide, provides great views of some of the birds of The Wash – avocets and shelducks in summer, brent geese and huge flocks of roosting waders in winter. Staff and volunteers are available when events are being held at the reserve. High tides are the best times to see the most birds on the lagoons.
